Mountfield HK hosted Finland’s KalPa Kuopio in Czechia on Game Day 5 of the Champions Hockey League Regular Season. With the visitors aiming to keep their flawless campaign alive and Mountfield seeking to strengthen their bid for a playoff position, only one team accomplished their goal.
The opening period produced two goals, one at each end. After withstanding Mountfield’s strong start, the Finns struck first when Juuso Mäenpää converted a powerplay, slipping the puck between the pads. Late in the period, the home side earned a five-on-three advantage, which Kevin Klíma capitalised on with a rebound to level the score. With under ten seconds remaining, the game was tied, and Mountfield carried the remainder of their powerplay into the second frame.
KalPa dominated the middle period, delivering a lesson in finishing with three unanswered goals. Konsta Kapanen, Patrick Curry, and Iivari Räisänen each found the net, giving the Finnish champions a commanding 4–1 lead heading into the final twenty minutes. Despite outshooting their opponents nearly two to one, Mountfield struggled to turn their chances into goals.
The Czechs pushed hard in the third period but couldn’t find a breakthrough. Their hopes ended when Konsta Kapanen scored his second of the night into the empty net at 46:27, sealing a 5–1 victory. KalPa therefore extended their perfect run to five wins in a row, continuing their flawless Champions Hockey League campaign.
