- Sparta have won three straight
- Vinzenz Rohrer was the lone goal scorer for Zurich
- The Czechs smothered the Swiss' offence
Two goals were enough to claim their third-straight game as Sparta Prague ochestrated another narrow win with a 2-1 victory over ZSC Lions Zurich at the Swiss Life Arena. Devin Shore scored the game-winning goal and Josef Kořenář made 16 saves on 17 shots.
Both sides entered their respective locker rooms scoreless after the first 20 minutes of play with Sparta holding a decisive advantage in shots. Fortunately for the Swiss, Šimon Hrubec was his usual self between the pipes as the Czechs peppered the netminder with 10 shots to Zurich’s 4.
The visitors' offensive pressure eventually resulted in Roman Horák making it a 1-0 game at 24:17. Sparta's sustained presence in the offensive zone gave Jakub Krejčík the chance to dance around a pair of defenders before sliding it back to Horák who registered his third of the tournament.
Shore would then extend his club's lead when he capitalised on a 2-on-1 with a nifty backhander in close. Pavel Kousal skated the puck out of the neutral zone and fed it past the outreached stick of a Zurich defender as Shore did the rest, carouselling the puck around the left pad of Hrubec.
Zurich finally secured their first of the contest at 39:17 when Vinzenz Rohrer performed some magic of his own, dangling around a Sparta defenceman and outwitting Kořenář on the backhand before sliding the puck to his forehand and into a yawning cage.
With desperation and an empty net, Zurich did their best to battle back and find that ever-elusive equaliser, but Sparta were up to the challenge as they held on to hand the Swiss their third loss of the tournament.
