- Zug opened with 2 early goals in the first that were equalised
- Huge second period from Ingolstadt with 4 goals
- Riley Barber netted 1 goal and 2 assists
After suffering two back-to-back losses at home, ERC Ingolstadt found their magic on the road to collect a monumental 7-3 victory over their Swiss hosts EV Zug at OYM Hall.
Lino Martschini lit the lamp 3:25 into the opening period to put Zug up 1-0. Two minutes later, Swedish forward Andreas Wingerli collected a pass on the doorstep of Ingolstadt netminder Brett Brochu, pulled the puck between his skates and chipped the puck high, in what can only be described as a highlight-reel worthy goal.
Rattled by the two early goals, Ingolstadt called a timeout, and found their rhythm to equalise. Forward Austen Keating first, shovelling a backhander past Zug netminder Leonardo Genoni off a stray rebound from Myles Powell. Minutes later, Riley Barber slid the puck to Sam Ruopp to beat Genoni a second time.
Heading into the second period, an unassisted short-handed goal from Daniel Pietta put Ingolstadt ahead 3-2, and moments later, Barber potted his first goal of the night, putting the visitors up 4-2.
The two goals in quick succession was an uno reverse card for Zug who needed a timeout of their own. Minutes later, Chris Jandric struck (5-2), which led to Tim Wolf taking over duties from Genoni, but it went from bad to worse for Zug. Alex Breton collected his first goal of the season, and Zug would now carry a four-goal deficit into the third stanza.
Tomáš Tatar had Zug back on track with powerplay goal number one of the night to cut the lead down to 6-3, but that headway was quickly lost after Keating struck on the man-advantage to make it 7-3 and with that seal Ingolstadt's first win of the season.
