- First meeting between the sides ended in an OT win for Mannheim
- Mannheim storm to four goal lead in the first period
- Five different scorers for Mannheim in big victory
After Adler Mannheim picked up two wins on the road, including an overtime victory against their Friday night opponents GKS Tychy, it was time for the German side to return home to continue the Group Stage of the Champions Hockey League, while Tychy were in town hoping to pick up some points on the road of their own.
Things got off to a fantastic start for Mannheim in front of their home crowd as they took a 1-0 lead after seven minutes of play thanks to a goal by David Wolf who lasered a backhand effort into the back of the net to open the scoring. Just minutes later and Mannheim were on the board again, this time through Ben Smith who completed a pretty passing play that saw assists going to Matthias Plachta and young prospect Tim Stützle.
Mannheim completed controlled the opening period, and would add another pair of goals before the buzzer sounded for the first intermission, first through Cody Lampl who ripped a shot into the top corner despite the puck rolling, and then after Tychy made a goalie change by bringing in John Murray to replace Kamil Lewartowski, Sinan Akdag added the fourth with a wraparound goal to end the period. Neither team could grab a goal in the second period, so Mannheim carried their four goal advantage into the third period, leaving Tychy a mountain to climb with just 20 minutes of regulation remaining.
Mannheim added a fifth goal midway through the third period as Jan-Mikael Järvinen became the fifth different scorer on the night and they held onto their 5-0 lead right until the final buzzer to take a convincing victory on home ice to go top of Group H.
