- A brace by Matti Kuparinen overcame the visitors
- Tychy came from four goals behind at one point to level the game
- Marco Insam scored his fifth goal of the tournament
HC Bolzano rose to the occasion in this fixture with the help of their typically booming fans, who were rewarded with a captivating game of hockey. Michael Blunden got the show underway at exactly 10:00 in the game with a slapshot goal before his teammate Luca Frigo completed a solid first period by doubling his sides lead to give GKS Tychy a headache heading into the break.
The second period didn’t change the overall outcome of the game, but it certainly set up an interest final one. A win by the Foxes wouldn’t truly be absolute without top scorer Marco Insam getting his name on the scoresheet, which he did after another Michael Blunden goal to put the home side up 4-0 at 30:02. If Bolzano felt comfortable at this stage then they were wrong to be as Tychy responded with three consecutive goals before the period could end; two of which came with the help of a fortunate deflection and the back skate of a Foxes defenceman.
Tychy temporarily silenced the home fans by completing their comeback in the third period when Alex Szczechura found a perfect shooting lane to wrist his shot home. Foxes forward Matti Kuparinen stole the show in the end to relieve his fans’ nerves and his coach's, who were aware that IFK Helsinki’s victory over Skellefteå AIK meant his side needed at least two points. His two predatory finishes in front of net cemented his sides qualification into the knockout stages and ended what had been a fantastic competition with Tychy.
