- Kristers Gudlevskis: 36/38 saves (94.74%) for Bremerhaven
- Kevin Pasched: 18/19 saves (94.74%) for Lausanne
- Janne Kuokkanen: 1 goal, 5 shots, +1 for Lausanne
After losing their season-opener in a shootout, Lausanne HC put on a dominant performance against Pinguins Bremerhaven, outshooting them 38-19. However, it took a goal with 3:41 remaining in regulation time to secure the 2-1 road victory.
Lausanne dominated the first period, outshooting Bremerhaven 15-5 but the game remained scoreless thanks to Latvian national team goaltender Kristers Gudlevskis. At the other end, despite not getting nearly as much work, Kevin Pasche was sharp when needed.
Lausanne finally broke through in the second minute of the second period off an attacking-zone face-off win by Théo Rochette. Janne Kuokkanen was the first player to get to the puck and took a backhander that beat Gudlevskis under the glove to the short side.
After that and for the rest of the middle frame, the Pinguins seemed to have a bit of an offensive spark to them as they tried to get back on even terms, coming with a particularly strong surge during a powerplay in the middle part of the period.
Early in the third period, a blast by Nicholas B. Jensen just grazed the netting outside the post, and for a moment the home fans thought he had scored. But Bremerhaven’s attempt to gain some traction in the attacking zone was derailed by a couple of penalties in the third period, which put them back on their heels somewhat.
However, after killing off both penalties, Bremerhaven tied it with 6:19 remaining. Phillip Bruggisser perfectly teed up a one-timer by Markus Vikingstad, who blasted it past Pasche.
But Lausanne went back to the attack and, less than three minutes later, they were back in front. Jason Fuchs won a battle for the puck in the corner and centred in front to defenceman Makai Holdener, who had time to pick his spot on Gudlevskis’ glove side.
Despite pulling Gudlevskis for the last two minutes, the Pinguins were unable to seriously threaten again.
