- Malmö take the points in a 12 goal thriller against TPS
- Lars Bryggman with a hat-trick for Malmo
- Special teams for Malmo were the difference maker with three power play goals on four attempts
The Malmö Redhawks began their Champions Hockey League campaign with an emphatic win over TPS Turku of Finland, skating out to an 8-4 win at home in the Malmö Arena, a place they've turned into a fortress, winning four of their five games at home in the past two CHL seasons. Malmö struck first and early through Lars Bryggman with just over two minutes played, and then the Swedish blueliner added another shortly after in what was an incredible night for the 25-year-old.
As Malmö looked to be in control, TPS managed to get one back through Zach Budish on the power play late in the first. However, it was the second period where Malmö started to run away with it, adding four in the middle period to take a dominant five-goal lead into the final frame. TPS did all they could to try and claw their way back into the game in the final period, cutting the deficit to 6-3 through goals from Oula Palve and Lauri Korpikoski, but it wasn't enough to stop Malmö who managed to continue their dominant performance to skate away with an 8-4 victory to go top of Group B.
"It was fun to score three goals and win. I've waited a long time to getting started again. We have played two preseason games but I like CHL!"Lars Bryggman (Malmö Redhawks)
"We had our moments, but our bad moments cost us too much"Ilari Filppula (TPS Turku)
