- EV Zug go top of Group D with huge win over Eisbaren Berlin
- Berlin still searching for first points of their campaign
- Two goals for Carl Klingberg helps Zug maintain unbeaten record
EV Zug continued their unbeaten run in this year's Champions Hockey League, with a dominant display in their first home game of their campaign, brushing aside Eisbaren Berlin in a 6-1 scoreline.
Zug came into game day three following two narrow victories over Berlin as well as Neman Grodno, but on their third outing and first at home, they really turned on the style, with Head Coach Dan Tangnes' side crushing their German opponents. Berlin, on the other hand, have had a tough time in this years tournament, narrowly losing against Kometa Brno in their second game of the tournament, as well as picking up a loss to Zug in their opening game.
Berlin did manage to get on the scoresheet first, Jonas Muller scoring at the midway mark of the opening period, but it was short lived as Zug responded through Carl Klingberg just a couple of minutes later to tie the game up at one going into the second period.
It was in the second period that Zug really began to dominate the game, with a three-goal rout in the space of five minutes, Viktor Stalberg, Miro Zryd and Lino Martschini all found the net to make it a 4-1 game, with the goal from Martschini being the highlight of the three second period goals, deking out netminder Marvin Cupper before slotting his effort into the net on the backhand, extended his point streak as the teams top scorer.
The rout didn't end at 40 minutes, Zug came out the stronger of the two sides and continued their dominance with another two quick goals, Klingberg getting his second of the night, before Garrett Roe became the fifth goalscorer for the Swiss side, on their way to a big 6-1 victory, putting Zug even closer to securing their spot in the next round.
Berlin are all but out of contention after three games, and face a tough test against Kometa Brno on Sunday night, while the win for Zug means there just one of the few teams left in this years CHL with a 100% win record.
