- David Tomášek scored the OT game-winning goal to finish hattrick
- Färjestad never trailed
- Třinec scored both goals in the third period
Färjestad Karlstad faced reigning Czech Extraliga champions Oceláři Třinec in Sweden for their fifth appearance in this season's Champions Hockey League. Both teams entered the game in great form, making for a hard-fought battle in which Färjestad ultimately came out on top.
The first period brought fast-paced, entertaining hockey, with visiting Třinec starting off particularly strong. However, that momentum shifted at 8:08 when David Tomášek scored from close range, putting Färjestad ahead 1-0. From that point on the home team controlled the play. Although Färjestad created several more scoring chances, they couldn't beat Třinec's netminder Marek Mazanec again within the first set of 20.
The second period mirrored the first, with Třinec initially taking charge. Yet at 25:48, Tomášek struck again, netting his second goal of the night to double Färjestad's lead. The Swedes dominated the rest of the period, though they occasionally allowed the Czechs to create some dangerous moments. Färjestad's goalie, Maxime Lagacé, stood strong, keeping Třinec off the scoreboard time and time again.
The third period was intense, with both sides generating numerous chances, but neither could convert for most of the period. That changed at 56:01 when Třinec, on a powerplay, pulled their goalie for another extra attacker and finally lit the lamp. Just a minute later, Daniel Kurovský scored to tie the game at 2-2, sending it into overtime.
Färjestad took control of the overtime play, and Tomášek completed his hattrick, securing the victory for the Swedes with a very nice OT game-winner on a man advantage. The win mean Färjestad remain unbeaten this season and top of the Regular Season Standings for now.
