- Fribourg-Gottéron light it up for the home crowd
- Oceláři Třinec are outshot 37-18
- Fribourg foward Christopher DiDomenico shines with 2 assists
Fribourg-Gottéron kicked off the excitement with two golden opportunites that rattled the Czech side early. The Swiss side moved the puck with precision, consistently controlling the play in all three zones.
Fribourg's Andrei Bykov would be the first to open up the scoring off a quick shot from defenceman Dave Sutter. Oceláři Třinec equalised minutes later with a quick give and go, thanks to Petr Vrána, who was assisted by Tomáš Kundrátek. Fribourg wired pucks to the net at every opportunity testing netminder Ondřej Kacetl from all angles.
A tripping penalty by defenceman David Musil gave Fribourg their first powerplay of the game, and the conversion was almost instant. A shapshot by Canadian Christopher DiDomenico high on the left side provided a juicy rebound, and was rifled in by foward Killian Mottet giving Fribourg a 2-1 lead.
Třinec stepped on the ice with renewed energy in the second period, taking just 39 seconds to equalise 2-2. Tomáš Kundrátek drilled the puck into the top right-hand corner of the net, off a pass from top forward Martin Růžička.
Moments later the Swiss side responded - Julien Sprunger netted a goal off a loose rebound, reclaiming the lead for Fribourg. The Czechs continued to press, and had several good chances against Fribourg-Gottéron netminder Reto Berra, but appeared to tire towards the end of the second period.
A momentary lapse in Třinec's defence allowed Nathan Marchon to slide into the slot and pick up Fribourg's fourth goal of the game, off a pass from forward Mauro Jörg, before the teams headed in for the period break.
The third period started as an even match up with both sides having similar chances to bury the puck. Třinec's offensive attempts were met with a relentless forecheck by the Swiss, who refused to give their oponents neither time nor space.
Fribourg netted another two goals before the night was over: Marchon scored his second goal of the game after a turnover by netminder Ondřej Kacetl behind the goal line, and Yannick Herren picked up his first powerplay goal of the night, securing a convincing 6-2 victory.
