- HC Bolzano take an early 1-0 lead in the first period
- Frisk Asker with lots of powerplay opportunities
- Bolzano netminder Kevin Boyle has an outstanding debut game
HC Bolzano had the best possible start to the game thanks to a penalty by hosts Frisk Asker less than a minute in. Forward Hampus Gustafsson was penalised for a cross-check, and Bolzano capitalised seconds into the powerplay thanks to a wrist shot from American forward Dustin Gazley, making it 1-0 for the visitors.
The Italian side got a second chance after Viktor Granholm took a hooking penalty on Bolzano's Daniel Catenacci, but Frisk netminder Nicklas Dahlberg made all the stops. The Norwegian side had a duo of great chances off some unexpected turnovers by Bolzano, but the 30-year-old, debuting, netminder Kevin Boyle wasn't in a generous mood.
A high stick from Alex Trivellato gave Asker their first man-advantage of the game. The home side did a great job controlling and moving the puck on the powerplay, but couldn't find the back of the net.
A scuffle between Frisk forward, Magnus Geheb and Bolzano's Brett Findlay late in the first period saw a 4-on-4 ensue in the opening minutes of the second stanza. The game took a twist when Daniel Cantenacci was ejected from the game for spearing, and Frisk's Anders Bastiansen took a minor for interference. The resulting 3-on-3 gave Bolzano's Brett Finlay just the space he needed for a breakaway goal, making it 2-0.
Frisk Asker cut the lead in half at 24:07 thanks to a powerplay goal by Mikkel Seiergren Christiansen. A duo of tripping penalties by Bolzano's Michael Halmo, and Dustin Gazley gave the home side a 5-on-3 for 30 seconds, but Frisk couldn't equalise.
Bolzano opened up their scoring in the third period, and extended their lead 3-1, courtesy of a net-front touch by Joseph Mizzi. Daniel Frank netted the Italian side's fourth goal less than a minute later. Frisk caught a big break after two penalties gave them two powerplays, including 30 seconds of 5-on-3 action, but it was nothing but bad luck for Frisk. Bolzano's Simon Pitschieler put up goal number five off an odd-man rush, on the powerplay at 55:47. Frisk Asker weren't able to claw their way back from the 5-1 deficit and suffered their second loss at home, while Bolzano are now two for two.
