- Frölunda score early in each period as they secure a 9-2 victory
- Captain Joel Lundqvist with a hat trick powerplay goals
In a top of the table clash at Group H, the Frölunda Indians hosted the Cardiff Devils to try and get their spot in the playoffs. As the two teams met at the Frölundaborg both sides could see themselves qualify for the next round with a regulation win.
It didn’t take long for the hosts to open the scoring, Patrick Carlsson benefiting from a loose puck right at the blueline to go in all alone to open the scoring just 35 seconds into the contest. Frölunda continued to press early, testing Devils goalie Ben Bowns forcing the Team GB in action early and often but they couldn’t find another goal in the rest of the first period as they carried their 1-0 lead into the second.
The teams traded chances in the opening minutes of the second period, Frölunda captain Joel Lundqvist made it a 2-0 game early with a powerplay goal, before the Devils captain Joey Martin scored to make it 2-1 with his first goal of the campaign, in his first game after missing the first four games through injury. Despite the Devils' best efforts defensively, they couldn’t hold off the attack of Frölunda who would add two more before the middle period was out, firstly through Karl Stollery midway through the period, and then a couple of minutes later Samuel Fagemo was the quickest to react to a rebound to tap it past Bowns for a 4-1 game.
Early in the third period, Frölunda extended their lead with a quick rush up ice, which was finished fantastically by Jacob Peterson less than three minutes into the final period, but the Devils would quickly respond through a powerplay goal from Joey Haddad. Two quick ones later in the period from Brandon Gormley and a second powerplay goal from Lundqvist made it a 7-2 game, cruising to the final buzzer and moving top of Group H after the captain finished his hat trick late in the game with his third powerplay goal, giving Frölunda an 9-2 victory with Fagemo adding a ninth with a late penalty shot.
