- Tomáš Vincour: 2 assists for Mountfield
- Rhett Rakhshani: 2 PP goals for Frölunda
- Frölunda last in Group H after 2 games
Mountfield HK went into Gothenburg and played a solid team game to earn a 3-2 victory and hand Frölunda Indians their second straight loss at home. That earns Mountfield their first three points in Group H, while Frölunda sit last with just one point after two games.
Mountfield opened the scoring midway through the second period on a brilliant individual effort by Aleš Jergl. The Czech forward blocked a clearing attempt at the Frölunda blueline, then fought off a hook as he skated in on goal and slid a backhander along the ice through the legs of Niklas Rubin. Frölunda thought they‘d tied it minutes later but the goal was immediately waved off by the referee for goaltender interference, which was confirmed by a brief video review.
With exactly six minutes to play in the period, a weak-angle shot by Philip Bo Samuelsson through a screen beat Rubin to make it 2-0. Before the end of the period, however, Frölunda got one back on a 5-on-3 when Ryan Lasch fed fellow American Rhett Rakhshani, who beat Marek Mazanec with a long wrister.
The Indians got another chance on the power play early in the third after a Mountfield bench minor for too many players on the ice, but after killing it off, Lukáš Cingel scored on a long wrister to restore the two-goal lead. There was still lots of time left on the clock, however. Rakhshani’s second power-play marker of the game once again brought his team within a goal with 3:41 to play. As expected, they then pushed hard for the equalizer, but Mountfield defended well and Mazanec was big when he needed to be, especially during a goalmouth scramble in the game's dying seconds.
