- SC Bern leapfrog above Kärpät Oulu and qualify for Round of 16
- Two point night for Mark Arcobello
- Grenoble lose 4th game in a row
SC Bern came into Game Day 6 knowing that they needed a win to secure their place in the Round of 16. They headed to France to face a spritely Grenoble side, one which can always spring a shock. Indeed it was the French side who had the better of the early exchanges. Their early play was rewarded with a Denny Kearney goal, beating Niklas Schlegel down low. Grenoble couldn’t capitalise on the early momentum and were eventually punished for taking three consecutive minor penalties. Tristan Scherwey capitalised on the third try of asking for the Swiss side, and the teams went into the first intermission level.
The away side began to pile on the pressure in the second period. At the midpoint of the game, Bern were outshooting Grenoble 22-13, and eventually the pressure was too much for the French side to handle. With Joel Champagne in the box sitting a minor penalty, Bern scored their second powerplay goal of the game, as Andrew Ebbett fired home to put his team in the driving seat.
SC Bern’s place in the Round of 16 was secured in the third period. They remained in full control of the game, and eventually doubled their advantage at the mid-way mark. Mark Arcobello scored from an almost-impossible angle to make the game 3-1, and the Swiss side comfortably held on to the win, and the all-important three points.
