- Eronen: 2 PP goals for IFK Helsinki
- Murray: 37 saves for Tychy
- IFK Helsinki now tied for 2nd in Group C
For the second straight meeting, GKS Tychy gave IFK Helsinki a really good battle, but they still came up empty as far as points, falling 2-1 in the Finnish capital. The win moves IFK into a second-place tie with Bolzano in Group C.
Tychy depended on the goaltending of John Murray all game and he was especially tested right away as they went shorthanded three straight times in the first half of the first period. Finally, Teemu Eronen opening the scoring on a 5-on-3 advantage, blasting a shot past a screened Murray. IFK Helsinki outshot Tychy 39-19 in the game.
As the third period began, Tychy were still within a goal and were finally able to get some momentum going with a couple of powerplays of their own. Just after the second one expired, Alex Szczechura tied the game when he took a nice feed from Tomáš Sýkora and fired top corner on Markus Ruusu. However, IFK were back to the powerplay soon after and Eronen’s second powerplay goal of the game – this time a long wrister but again Murray was screened – turned out to be the game-winner with 7:36 to go.
