Group A action of the 2019/20 Champions Hockey League continues with KAC Klagenfurt hosting debut side Frisk Asker who had a strong outing in their first game against EHC Biel-Bienne despite a 2-1 loss, while Klagenfurt upset Tappara Tampere of Finland in a 3-2 win.
Sometimes it’s not necessarily skill that gets you a goal, but a lucky bounce, and that’s exactly what happened with Klagenfurt when they opened the scoring in the first period. A shot by Daniel Obersteiner sailed past the goal and off the glass behind the net, bouncing straight back to Manuel Ganahl who was on hand to tap into the empty goal while everyone was still trying to locate the puck. Later in the period with the hosts on the powerplay, they moved the puck well to set up Matthew Neal for his 2nd goal of the campaign and third point, proving why he was wearing the Top Scorer jersey heading into the game.
Despite controlling the tempo for most of the second period, Klagenfurt weren’t able to extend their lead, the closest they came was a shot that rang off the crossbar from Thomas Hundertpfund hit the iron and bounced in front of the line, much to the relief of the visiting team.
