- Kärpät advance with win, Mountfield eliminated with loss
- Nicklas Lasu & Ohtamaa: 2 points each for Kärpät
- Jaroslav Pavelka: 22 saves for Mountfield
Rasmus Kupari, the first-round draft pick of the Los Angeles Kings, scored the game-winning goal on a 5-on-3 powerplay in the last minute of the second period as Kärpät Oulu defeated Mountfield HK 3-2. That result sees Kärpät through to the next round and eliminates any chance of Mountfield advancing.
After a scoreless first period, Mountfield opened the scoring in the first minute of the second on the powerplay thanks to some good work in front of the net by Daniel Rákos. Three minutes later, Kärpät LGT Top Scorer Michal Krištof tied it with some nifty stickwork of his own, and then they went ahead on a quick shot by Nicklas Lasu in the 29th minute. Matej Paulovič brought Mountfield back even on a brilliant individual rush down the left wing, but Kupari’s goal with 23 seconds to go in the period – a quick re-direction of a pass from Aleksi Heponiemi – put his team back in front.
Mountfield pushed hard for the equalizer in the third period, but despite some powerplay chances Veini Vehviläinen stood tall to preserve the victory. Ultimately, time ran out on Mountfield for this game and their CHL run this season.
