- Lausanne's goalie Luca Boltshauser made 3 saves in the shootout
- Juhamatti Aaltonen had 3 assists in losing effort for Pelicans
- Lausanne's first ever CHL win
The game got off to a very quick start, as only 2 minutes into the match, Lausanne HC’s Yannick Herren drove one into the back of the Lahti Pelicans net. Despite Lausanne’s three penalties in the first period, both teams were neck and neck right to the very end and they both left for the locker rooms with 8 shots on goal each.
The Pelicans had the upper hand in the second period, as Lahti’s two powerplay goals (Aleksi Mustonen scored 7 minutes into the second period and Waltteri Merelä just 2 minutes after him, after yet another Lausanne penalty) gave them the lead. Their third on the night came with just over 2 minutes of time remaining, as Jesse Ylönen finalised the score at 3-1 after 40 minutes of the game played. Interestingly, both teams left for the locker rooms tied again at 19 shots on goal each in total .
The third period saw 4 goals and Lausanne make a late comeback to send the game to overtime. The first came just 50 seconds into the third period, when Petteri Lindbohm was able to overcome Lahti’s Tomi Karhunen. Otto Nieminen added Lahti’s fourth on the night one and a half minutes later, but Lausanne were quick to react and bring the goal deficit back down to a single goal thanks to Joel Vermin’s precisesly aimed shot. Lausanne were desperate to tie the game and after many back and forths, Josh Jooris was finally able to do so and drag the game to OT. Both teams pressed high in overtime and had many goalscoring opportunities, but no team had it in them to score so a shootout was unavoidable.
Despite goaltender Tomi Karhunen being the star of the Pelican’s first game, it was Lausanne’s Luca Boltshauser who gifted his side their first ever CHL win in the shootout, saving 3 and only letting a sole shootout goal into his net. Lausanne return from their first CHL away trip with 3 points from an overtime loss to Yunost Minsk and a shootout win against the Pelicans, whilst the Lahti Pelicans have 4 from their win over Třinec and OT loss to Lausanne.
