Lausanne HC win Group D with a 5-3 win over visiting Oceláři Třinec. After the result from Minsk was in, Třinec needed just a single point to advance as well but fell just short, so their CHL season is now over.

Last week’s overtime hero Matěj Stránský got the game’s first great scoring chance three minutes in but he was robbed by Tobias Stephan, and then just 34 seconds later, Christoph Bertschy opened the scoring at the other end, flipping a shot over a sprawling Patrik Bartošák. Třinec tied it on the power play just shy of the 13-minute mark when Erik Erik Hrňa converted a pass from Stránský, but Lausanne regained the lead less than a minute later when Victor Oejdemark’s shot from the blueline found its way through a crowd in front.

A couple of Třinec penalties early in the second period gave Lausanne a 5-on-3 advantage and they capitalized, with Cory Emmerton showing good hands in close. The two-goal cushion lasted less than two minutes, however, as Michal Kovařčík scored a brilliant goal for Třinec, breaking into the zone and firing a backhander over the left shoulder of Stephan.

Třinec had several great chances to tie it but when Ronalds Kenins restored Lausanne’s two-goal lead on a nice move with 11:55 to go, the reigning Czech champs were in trouble. Just after failing on the power play, Petr Vrána snuck one through Stephan with 7:45 to play. Then a minute later, Ondřej Kovařčík had the tying goal on his stick but shot wide with half the net empty.

Třinec had a late power play chance but then took themselves off it with a couple penalties of their own. Petteri Lindbohm put an exclamation point on the victory with a 5-on-3 goal at 59:59.
