- 17-year-old Loris Uberti shined in CHL debut
- Mannheim remain at 11 points in the standings
- Late goal spoils Uberti's shutout bid
Adler Mannheim entered their rematch with Lausanne HC with a chance to secure first place in Group C, but a strong effort from the Swiss side spoiled their homestand as they were defeated 3-1 at SAP Arena.
17-year-old Loris Uberti of Lausanne looked poised in net as he and Mannheim’s Florian Mnich stole the show with some sparkling saves to begin the bid.
Nearly 18 minutes in, however, it would be the visitors who would break through first when Emilijus Krakauskas saucered the puck through the crease to Jiri Sekac who was on the doorstep to shovel it past Mnich, putting the Swiss up by one to close out the period.
Lausanne extended their lead midway through the second after consecutive penalties from Mannheim gifted the visitors a 5-on-3. The opportunistic Swiss side wasted no time in netting their second off the stick of Tim Bozon who was parked out in front to beat Mnich cleanly.
One in the first and one more in the second saw Lausanne sitting in a comfortable position heading into the third.
In a surprise move, Mannheim would pull their goalie when they went on the man-advantage with a little more than 7 minutes left in the final stanza. Their gamble, however, wouldn't pay off as Lausanne's Benjamin Baumgartner would bury the empty-netter to create an even larger gap between them and the hosts.
With less than three minutes to go in regulation, Uberti was on track to record a shutout in his CHL debut, but Mannheim's Sinan Akdag foiled his effort as the home side finally found twine at 57:35.
Nevertheless, the Swiss netminder's efforts were enough to frustrate the German side who failed to maintain their momentum as they fell to their Swiss counterparts to remain at 11 points in the standings.
