- Christian Marti nets two for ZSC including game winner
- Pirates with five different scorers
- First overtime game of this season
Aalborg Pirates almost pulled a huge upset as they led in Zurich going into the final ten minutes of their first ever Champions Hockey League game.
The two sides traded goals in the opening period, with the Lions taking the lead only to see the Pirates tie thing up again less than a few minutes later. David Friedmann then gave Aalborg the lead just before the halfway mark, but Kevin Klein canceled that out shortly after. Two goals either side of the period break but the Pirates 5-3 ahead going into the final eleven minutes, before the Lions' fightback started. Jérôme got goal four, and then Chris Baltisberger tied things up with 7:32 to go, pouncing on a puck landing fortunately for him in the crease.
Overtime meant Aalborg had their first point in the CHL, but they wouldn't be able to add any more. A fine individual effort from Christian Marti skating through the Pirates' defense saw him light the lamp and give the Lions a 6-5OT win, and avoid what could have been a very unexpected defeat
