- No late drama as Lukko hold on for 3-0 win
- Lassi Lehtinen stops 19 in shutout victory
- Lukko score at even strength, on the powerplay and in an empty net
After an overtime win and a regulation loss on their road trip, Lausanne HC returned home looking for better fortune, opening their home stand against Finnish side Lukko Rauma, who they had already beat in overtime on Game Day one.
The two sides played out a scoreless opening period, but Lukko wasted no time in opening the scoring in the second. A two-on-one developed, and Kristian Pospisil managed to thread the puck across the crease, between a diving defenceman and the goalie's stick, finding Pavol Skalicky at the back door who buried his opportunity to give the visitors a 1-0 lead, which proved to be the only score through fourty minutes, setting up a potentially tight finish in the third.
The teams exchanged chances early to start the third period, with both sides knowing that the next goal could either seal the deal in favour of the visitors or open the game wide open if Lausanne could get on the board.
Eventually, with a powerplay opportunity, Lukko wasted no time, Scott Pooley fired one from the left circle that found nothing but net, but after a video review, it was deemed Linus Nyman had interfered with goalie Tobias Stephan, giving Lausanne a lifeline as the goal was waived off, keeping it at a 1-0 scoreline and giving Lausanne a second chance to try and tie the game.
Lausanne managed to kill the remainder of the penalty and then both teams went to work to try and secure victory at even strength. Given what happened in the first meeting, Lukko looked a lot more aggressive, knowing that Lausanne don't need long to turn a game on it's head after they scored twice in five minutes in the first meeting to steal the victory.
Lukko found themselves with a man advantage late on, which would be painful enough for Lausanne if it allowed the visitors to kill two minutes and get closer to victory, but it would be more painful than that. The scoresheet says Sebastian Repo opened a two-goal lead with a powerplay strike, but it was Josh Jooris who couldn't quite control the initial rebound and accidentally put the puck into his own net, giving Lukko a two-goal lead late on.
There would be no repeat of last time - Lukko lead by two late against Lausanne, as they held firm and held on, securing victory away from home with an empty net goal by Michael Haga to win 3-0 on the night.
