- Martin Janolhs scored the first and final goal to achieve 2+2
- Malmö overtake Munich in the table with the victory
- Emil Molin and Marcus Sylvegård both contributed two points
Red Bull Munich entered this game in a superior position to the teams below them but left in a vulnerable state after an emphatic performance by the home side. After one period, it was 1-0 for the Malmö Redhawks; Martin Janolhs’s tip on goal halfway through the first period turned into a pass for himself after it ricocheted off the pad of Kevin Reich, falling invitingly in front of an open net before being tucked home.
Malmö enjoyed multiple chances in the opening period and continued to create more in the second despite a leveller from Munich at 26:00, which was tipped in by Mark Voakes after a seemingly pedestrian shot was thrown towards the net. Malmö unsurprisingly converted another one of their many chances to regain their lead when Max Görtz fired home a slapshot at the second attempt after the visitors failed to mark him on the first.
A dominant third period asserted Malmö’s dominance in this game and their right to go top. Captain Fredrik Händemark completed a teasing lap around the oppositions net before firing home to lead his side to a 3-1 advantage at 42:49. Munich’s frustrations became apparent as the game became physical with some heavy hits being inflicted by both sides. Malmo responded by flexing their powerplay once more as Marcus Sylvegård was on hand to score an attractive breakaway goal. Another goal made the scoreline 5-1, forcing Munich into reluctantly sacrificing their netminder before the inevitable happened as the Redhawks scored their sixth and, thankfully for the visitors, final goal.
