- Yunost Minsk survive late scare to take overtime win
- Denis Tsyganov with two points for Yunost
- Lausanne mounted third period comeback in CHL debut, but failed to get the win
The first period was a cagey affair, with Lausanne looking like they felt the effects of the long journey from Switzerland to Belarus. Both teams killed penalties in the first period, with Yunost having the better of puck possession, which led to more shots (7-4 in favour of the hosts), but Tobias Stephan stood firm.
In the second period Sergei Drozd had a great chance to break the deadlock, but Tobias Stephan managed to snag the puck and keep the score level at 0-0. Lausanne ran into discipline issues in the second period, taking 3 penalties in quick succession, but Yunost were unable to really create any dangerous chances, thanks to some brave penalty killing and yet more solid play by Stephan. Denis Tsyganov almost thought he’d scored late in the period but lost an edge at the crucial moment, and both teams headed into the third period level.
The deadlock would finally be broken early in the third period. A beautiful feed from the left wing by Maxim Maltsev fed Vsevolod Kashkar at the back post and beat Stephan who had no chance to make the save. Five minutes later, Minsk doubled their advantage as new summer signing Denis Tsyganov broke in on a 2-on-1, only to go it alone and lift the puck over a sprawling Tobias Stephan. Yunost might have thought they won it, but then Lausanne turned on the style. With eight minutes to go, Lausanne scored their first ever CHL goal through Josh Jooris, whose goal was subject to a long video review but eventually stood. Then with less than four minutes to go, Christophe Bertschy converted on the powerplay to tie the game! The game went to overtime, but Yunost managed to reverse the tide, and Andrei Antonov scored the overtime winner to give the home side yet another win in Minsk!
