- Milan Gulaš is HC Pilsen's top scorer so far this season (4 goals + 4 assists after 3 matches played)
- The first tie between Pilsen and HPK a week ago also went to OT and Pilsen also won
- All three of HPK's games this season have gone to OT, they lost to Pilsen twice but were able to beat Zug in a shootout
Milan Gulaš strikes again! His first goal goal in the opening period gave Pilsen side the lead, but after HPK's equaliser he once again had to step up. His OT goal just 15 seconds into OT secured the win for Pilsen who beat HPK 2-1, just as they did in their 5-4 OT win a week ago back in the Czech Republic.
The game started very cautiously, with both teams testing out their opponents, but it didn’t take long for both teams to pick up speed and higher the tempo. HC Pilsen were the first to score thanks to captain Milan Gulaš, who was able to get a shot past HPK Hämeenlinna goalie Joona Voutilainen with just under 6 minutes of the game played. Pilsen held on to their lead for the rest of the first period, despite holding off a powerplay after Jakub Pour’s hooking call 5 minutes before the end of the period.
The second period was a very close affair - Pilsen wanted to hold on to their lead, whilst HPK were desperate to equalise. With just 34 seconds of the second period played, Pilsen’s Jakub Pour was once again penalised, this time for high-sticking. 9 minutes later teammate Roman Vráblík was awarded a 2 minute hooking penalty, but HPK were unable to utilise neither powerplay and after 40 minutes of game time up they left for the locker rooms still losing by a goal.
HPK’s determination to score gave them their long sought-after goal just 38 seconds after stepping onto the ice for the third period. With the score tied, Pilsen swapped goalie Dominik Frodl for Jaroslav Pavelka 14 minutes before the end of the game. Nine minutes before the final whistle, HPK’s Valtteri Puustinen was penalised for slashing and his penalty offered Pilsen a chance to gain back their lead in their only powerplay opportunity on the night, but sadly they were unable to utilise it. With the scores still tied at 1-1, both teams geared up for OT. After just a few puck exchanges, the puck ended up in the back of Joona Voutilainen’s net after just 17 seconds thanks to Milan Gulaš's goal. He currently has 4 goals and 4 assist after 3 games played and is both his side's top scorer and top assists man.
