- The Czechs remain perfect through five games
- Skellefteå's late collapse was costly
- Pilsen's Jan Růžička was excellent, stopping 16 of 18
HC Pilsen scored three times in the third to overcome Skellefteå AIK 4-2 and remain undefeated through the opening five games of the 2026/27 Champions Hockey League season. Jan Růžička withstood a late onslaught, ultimately stopping 16 of 18 shots en-route to the victory.
A shot from the point found its way through as Skellefteå found themselves with the lead at the 17:06 mark of the first period. Måns Forsfjäll cycled the puck from low to high as Oskar Vuollet let it go from just below the blue line to register his third of the season.
Then in the second, Pontus Johansson made it a 2-0 game for the Swedes when he corralled the puck, skated through the near circle and wristed it top shelf far side. The defenceman had all the time and space he needed to get into a lane and fire it past Růžička to extend his club's lead.
But just as Skelleftea seemed to be heading into the locker room holding that 2-0 lead, Adam Měchura broke through for the Czechs with less than a minute to play in the middle frame. Ondřej Rohlík powered the puck through the left circle before dishing it off to Měchura who sharply deposited it into the back of the cage.
Pilsen continued to battle back in the third and their efforts were rewarded when Jakub Chromiak converted on a beautiful one-knee one-timer that sailed past Jani Lampinen to make the score deadlocked at 2-2. Then the encore came when Jakub Lev tipped the puck in close to give the hosts their first lead of the night at 56:41.
The Swedes attempted to produce the equaliser with the netminder pulled, but Růžička managed his position perfectly and Rohlík notched his second with an empty-netter to help Pilsen secure their fifth-straight win.
