- Salzburg first ever Austrian team to make the Quarter-Finals
- Rouen's fairytale run over, but made their own history
- Ryan Duncan with two goals
After the three all draw two weeks earlier, both sides knew they were in with a huge chance of creating history by advancing to the next round. An early goal was always going to be key, and while Rouen rode out a spell of pressure from the Red Bulls early on, the deadlock was eventually broken by the home side at 11:19 as Ryan Duncan was allowed too much space in the slot to fire home.
It got worse for the visitors with 1:03 left on the opening period, Brant Harris' shot too hot for Pintarič to handle to double the lead. Rouen managed to get themselves a lifeline with 27 minutes played as Joris Bedin poked the puck home to halve the deficit. However, the Red Bulls went 3-1 ahead only 47 seconds later through Tommy Raffl and that scoreline held until the end of the period.
The next goal was then going to be crucial, and sadly for the French side they didn't get it – Bobby Raymond making the game safe at 56:35 with a rocket of a wrist shot. The scoring didn't end there as Rouen pulled the goalie to try to find a way back into the series, but Mario Huber unselfishly passed to Ryan Duncan for the empty-netter to make it 5-1 on the night and 8-4 on aggregate.
