- Davos outshot Rögle 35-22
- Rögle led 3-0 with five minutes remaining
- Mark Friedman: 1 assist, 4 shots on goal for Rögle
Thanks to a strong goaltending performance by Calle Clang, Rögle Ängelholm built up a 3-0 lead over HC Davos, then held on for a 3-2 victory on home ice on Game Day 5 of the Champions Hockey League.
Davos held the edge in play in the opening period, outshooting Rögle 11-6 – but it was the home side that struck twice.
After failing to score on an early powerplay, Albin Sundsvik opened the scoring at 9:45. Taking advantage of a giveaway on a dangerous backhand pass up the middle, Sundsvik scored on his backhand.
Five minutes later, it was hard work behind the net by Fredrik Olofsson that led to an opportunity by Tinus Luc Koblar, who swept into the slot and finished the play on a one-timer.
Davos continued to fire shots in the second period but Clang continued to shine. The only goal of the middle frame came one second shy of the game’s midpoint to put Rögle up 3-0. Off the rush, Luca Hollenstein stopped Joel Kellman’s initial backhander, but was in no position to stop Linus Sandin from putting in the rebound.
Rögle appeared to go up 4-0 with under six minutes to play but, after a review, the goal was called back because it was kicked in by Luboš Horký.
Nonetheless, the home side had all the offence it needed, and concentrated most of its efforts on preserving Clang’s shutout. To that end, Davos got very few chances in the final period until a giveaway with under five minutes to play resulted in Enzo Corvi going face-to-face with Clang. A nifty move by Corvi made it 3-1.
The game wasn’t over yet, and on the powerplay, Davos fought back to within one when Brendan Lemieux buried a rebound with 45 seconds to play. But despite remaining on the powerplay for the rest of regulation time, they could not equalise.
