A little over a minute into OT, Dmytro Timashov played the hero for HK Nitra, propelling his team past SaiPa Lappeenranta 3-2 to earn the extra point and gain some ground in the standings.

Nitra's Brett David Pollock made it a 1-0 contest with less than three minutes to go in the first when he beat Gustavs Dāvis Grigals off a deflection. 

But the hosts managed to engineer the equaliser just 15 seconds into the middle frame when Mikko Perttu made good on an attempt for his third of the competition. Matej Marinov made the initial save, but the rebound bounced right to Perttu who was able to guide it into the yawning cage.

Later, a nifty behind-the-back feed from Filip Bajtek found the stick of Hugo Kováč who slid it in to regain the Slovakians' lead a little past the midway mark of the period.

In the third, it was Brian Kramer leveling the score when he whistled one past the Nitra netminder. Kramer got control of the puck at the top of the slot, picked his corner and fired through traffic to make it 2-2.

With both sides still tied after 60 minutes, OT followed. And it didn't take long for Timashov to find the net as he shoveled the backhand over the left pad of the netminder to lift his club to their second victory of the season.
