- Salzburg qualify for the Round of 16!
- The scoring opens up for both sides in the second period
- Salzburg take charge in the third period, netting five goals
It was a clean, fast, and scoreless first period for the two sides, as Red Bull Salzburg hosted Polish contenders JKH GKS Jastrzębie at Eisarena Salzburg. Neither netminders conceded a goal, despite both sides rifling the puck in at every opportunity.
Czech netminder Patrik Nechvátal had a tough job, with Red Bull Salzburg controlling most of the first stanza, but his efforts were outstanding, stopping all 16 attempts by the Austrian side.
The second period opened up for Salzburg after Jastrzębie forward Samuel Mlynarovic took a tripping penalty. The hosts wasted no time cashing in. A one-timer blasted on the net by Peter Schneider, saw a rebound scramble, and Austrian native, Mario Huber hammered the puck in, giving Salzburg a 1-0 lead.
Jastrzębie equalised moments later, courtesy of a long pass from Dominik Jarosz, which was picked up by forward Martin Kasperlik, and sniped over the shoulder of Salzburg netminder Nicolas Wieser.
The Polish side almost had a chance to take the lead in the third period after a breakaway, however a phenomenal backcheck by defenceman Charles Vincent Lo Verde saw the puck poked away from the net. Salzburg had a great chance off a rogue turnover, but Nechvátal swallowed it up.
At 46:31 a wrist-shot by Salzburg forward Jakub Borzecki got through the pads of Nechvátal, just dribbling over the line, and giving the Austrians the lead 2-1. A penalty by Jastrzębie's Vitalijs Pavlovs saw Ty Loney extend Salzburg's lead 3-1. Loney extended the lead yet again to 4-1 off a perfect pass from teammate Jan-Mikael Järvinen.
Jastrzębie switched out netminders, bringing in Michał Kieler, but relentless Salzburg continued the onslaught. Benjamin Nissner picked up his first of the night to make it 5-1, and at 54:24 Thomas Raffl made it 6-1 for the Austrians.
With their fourth straight win in tow, Red Bull Salzburg cement their position as a top team in Group H and qualify for the Round of 16!
