- M. Olimb: 3 assists for Skellefteå
- Ericsson: 1 + 1 for Skelleftea
- Szczechura : goal for Tychy
In GKS Tychy’s first Champions Hockey League game on Friday, it took visiting IFK Helsinki a while to get their legs going and Tychy earned a respectable 5-2 result. Two days later, however, Skellefteå AIK did not mess around and started attacking right from the opening faceoff. They built up a 3-0 lead after one period and it was 4-0 when Alex Szczechura scored Tychy’s lone goal at the 26:00 mark. By the time the middle frame was over, the score was 7-1, and one more goal in the third made the final score 8-1.
With their deep and experienced roster, Skellefteå spread the scoring out pretty evenly with eight different goal-scorers and only two players – Jimmie Ericsson and former CHL MVP Mathis Olimb – with multi-point games. Despite the one-sided score, though, the home fans at Stadion Zimowy Tychy never stopped making noise all game.
“We didn’t know anything about this team. We didn’t know anything about Bolzano either and we lost there so we had to play great today. We did because our mental preparation was very good.”Jimmie Ericsson (Forward, Skellefteå AIK)
“Our defensive zone play was a little bit sloppy. It’s better to play against these teams again this week. Now we have experience how they play. We will do the analysis and try to make everything better in Sweden and Finland.”Alex Szczechura (Forward, GKS Tychy)
