- Storhamar won in the shootout
- Overtime brought no goals
- Fribourg outshot Storhamar 52-37
Storhamar Hamar hosted Fribourg-Gottéron on home ice in Norway aiming to secure their first three points of the CHL season. Fribourg, already with three points on the board, were looking to double their tally. With both teams chasing the win, it turned out to be a goalless but interesting contest, with points being split at the end of it.
The opening twenty minutes were fast-paced, with neither side able to dominate. The game shifted when Storhamar’s Victor Svensson was called for hooking at 16:40, followed by a tripping penalty given to his teammate Jacob Berglund just over a minute later. This gave Fribourg a prime 5-on-3 powerplay opportunity, but Storhamar’s defense held strong. Netminder Markus Røhnebæk Stensrud played a crucial role in keeping the score level, carrying his team through to the end of the period.
The second period had two distinct halves. The first was controlled by the visitors, as Storhamar’s Andreas Martinsen was called for interference in the opening minute. Despite the advantage, Fribourg failed to capitalise once again. Later in the period, a slashing call resulted in a penalty shot for Fribourg, taken by Marcus Sörensen. However, Stensrud once again stood tall, blocking the shot and maintaining the scoreless tie. The second half of the period saw Storhamar apply pressure with multiple shots on goal and a powerplay opportunity, though Fribourg managed to kill it off unharmed.
The third period offered more powerplay chances, primarily for Fribourg, but Storhamar’s defence, backed by their in-form goaltender, kept the game scoreless, pushing it into overtime. Even with the extra space in 3-on-3 play, neither team could break the deadlock, leading to a penalty shootout where Storhamar secured a hard-fought victory by scoring on three of their five attempts.
