- Třinec win their first game of the tournament to throw the group wide open
- Both teams conceded shorthanded goals
- Neither side could capitalise on their 7 powerplays
A late goal concluded this game in which powerplays became more of a poisoned chalice than an opportunity.
An individual short-handed effort by Emil Bemström put Djurgården ahead before his fellow netminder Adam Reideborn cancelled out the goal by assisting one of his own. His name may not be on the scoresheet but his clumsy pass from behind the net found the stick of a Třinec player who put it on a platter for Vladimíř Dravecký to place home the second SH goal of the game.
Andreas Engvist saved his teammates embarrassment temporarily when he rifled home the first even-strength goal of the game with five minutes left to play in the second. It wasn’t to last, however, when a timeout just before the power break spurred the visitors into levelling the game once more.
Two more goals in the third left this game at a 3-3 standstill before a late wraparound goal by Aron Chmielewski ended the affair and sealed his team’s first three points of the tournament.
