- Třinec led 3-0 after the first period, Fribourg came back with four straight goals
- Fribourg now perfect with nine points after three games, Třinec with 0
- Julien Sprunger: Two goals for Fribourg
Fribourg-Gottéron entered the game with a perfect six points and Oceláři Třinec were looking for their first points. For a while, it looked like that would change, as Třinec dominated the early going and were up 3-0 just past the 13-minute mark. However, Fribourg came back with three goals in the second period and one more early in the third to win 4-3.
It was David Kofroň who opened the scoring on the night with a beautiful individual effort. After receiving a pass from Tomáš Marcinko at the blueline, he skated in 1-on-2 but made a great fake and went around them, then beat Reto Berra over the glove.
The second goal came on the power play just past the first period‘s midpoint, and it took Třinec only four seconds to capitalize. There was a bit of confusion off the faceoff and Aron Chmielewski picked up the loose puck in the slot and beat Berra stick side.
The third goal came on a breakaway, with Erik Hrňa feeding Marcinko, who skated in alone and beat Berra five-hole.
But after being back on their heels for much of the first period, Fribourg came back with a big push in the second period, led by captain Julien Sprunger. Sprunger had a great chance early in the period but was denied by Marek Mazanec, but it didn’t take him long to break through. Just two minutes into the middle frame, Andrei Bykov found Christopher DiDomenico down low, who relayed in front for the Sprunger one-timer.
A couple of minutes later, Fribourg went to the power play and it was Sprunger again finishing off a nice passing play – this time it was David Desharnais giving him the feed from down low.
After that terrible start to the period, Třinec seemed to wake up and started pushing the play again. However, late in the period Fribourg went back to the power play and with 51 seconds to go and the visitors tied it. After a battle in the corner, Killian Mottet came up with the puck and fed in front to a wide-open Desharnais, who had Mazanec at his mercy and beat him on the backhand deke.
As the third period began, Třinec had a power play of their own and a chance to tie it, but Fribourg killed it off and then took their first lead of the game when former NHL defenceman Raphael Diaz snuck in from the point, took a pass from Bykov and beat Mazanec on a forehand deke at 42:14.
After that, each team had a couple of power plays but never for the full two minutes, as the game became choppy with little flow. Třinec were unable to mount much pressure until the late going, and even then, they couldn't get much on net besides long shots from the outside.
Fribourg held on to secure their third straight win, and left Třinec in a desperate situation.
