Trailing by three goals in third, Sparta Prague did the unthinkable with a come-from-behind 7-6 aggregate victory over the Växjö Lakers in their Champions Hockey League Quarter-Final series. The Czechs manufactured two late-period tallies to tie it up and Jani Lajunen sealed it for the visitors who produced four tallies in the final frame to earn their place in the Semi-Finals.

Victor Stjernborg got things going for the Swedes early when he cleaned up a rebound to give Växjö a 3-1 aggregate lead a little over two minutes into the opening stanza. Sparta's Jakub Kovář made the initial save on Joachim Blichfeld's wrister, but gave up a juicy rebound which Stjernborg had no trouble depositing into the back of the net.

The hosts added to their lead near the closing minutes of the frame when Elias Rosén scored for the second time in as many games. A loose puck found its way to the defenceman who corralled it inside the slot and fired it far side past the stick of Kovář to give the Swedes a 4-1 aggregate lead heading into the second period.

Sparta were eventually given some life when Lajunen scored on the penalty kill to make it 4-2. A mishandled pass at the point allowed Lajunen to scoop the puck up in the neutral zone as he powered his way past a pair of defenders before sliding the puck five-hole.

But just over two minutes later, the Swedes reclaimed their three-goal cushion when Dylan McLaughlin dished a cross-crease feed to Manuel Ågren who slid the puck back door to make it 5-2 on aggregate with one period left to play.

As the puck dropped in the third, Sparta began gaining momentum, netting two goals in quick succession to put Växjö on their heels. Roman Horák lit the lamp first when he redirected a point shot near the top of the crease. One minute later, Jakub Krejčík brought his club to within one when he engineered his first of the tournament.

For all their effort, however, it was the Swedish side registering the all-important next goal when their captain Joel Persson gave them some insurance as he wristed one from the far circle to make it 6-4 on aggregate. Dennis Rasmussen won the draw back to Persson who dusted it off before lifting it past the glove of Kovář.

Sparta opted to pull their netminder with two and a half remaining in regulation and found success when they netted their fourth and fifth tallies of the night to tie things at 6-6 on aggregate. Michal Moravčík got his stick on the puck and slid it into the cage to bring the Czechs to within one and then Michal Řepík completed the comeback when he shoveled one past Åhman.

3-on-3 play followed in the extra session where Lajunen nabbed his second of the night to complete the comeback as Växjö saw their season come to an end in the Quarter-Finals for a second consecutive season.
