- Zug go top of Group B (13 points) and win fourth game of the season
- Lino Martschini was the stand out player of the match, scoring two goals in just over a minute and assisting one on the night
- Pilsen lost a 2-0 lead conceding 4 goals in the second period
HC Pilsen started their match against EV Zug promisingly but missed their star player and CHL top scorer Milan Gulaš who did not feature in the match. They lost a two-goal lead in the second period and conceded four goals in 11 minutes. Despite having many chanced to get back into the game, they lacked their usual sharpnes in front of goal and missed one too many goal scoring opportunities and return home without any points and second in their group.
First to break the deadlock was Pilsen’s Petr Straka 13 minutes into the game when his nicely aimed shot sailed into Luca Hollenstein’s net, who was beaten for the first time in CHL play. Zug were the more active team overall though, as they ended the first period with 11 more shots on goal than Pilsen.
Despite all of their attacking effort, nine minutes into the second period Jérôme Bachofner’s high-sticking penalty gave Pilsen the perfect opportunity to double their lead from a powerplay and that’s exactly what happened seconds later when Peter Čerešňák found the back of the Zug net for the second and final time, as just 13 seconds later Erik Thorell got Zug back into the game with a clever shot that kick started the whole comeback. Dario Simion’s powerplay goal two minutes later tied the game at 2-2. With under two minutes of the second period remaining, Gregory Hofman and Lino Martschini combined to cut through Pilsen's defense and gain their team the lead for the first time in the match. One minute later, Zug struck again and who else then Lino Martchini was at the end of the shot. He tucked his nicely aimed shot from Erik Thorell's pass right to the left post of goalie Kristián Kolář's net and gave him no chance. In a surprising turn of events, Pilsen left for the locker rooms two goals down instead of in the lead.
With seven minutes of the third period played, Zug’s Livio Langenegger caught Kolář out when he came out of his goal to clear a shot but didn’t hit it as he would have liked. Despite Kolář making it back into his net to face the shot, he didn't have the right focus to make the save and Zug added the final goal of the match to make it 5-2. Pilsen stepped up the tempo and desperately tried to get back into the game – the next few minutes saw them face Luca Hollenstein in more than one breakaway, but the calm goalie stood his ground and protected his net brilliantly right up to the final buzzer. The extra three points for Zug now mean they now sit top of Group B and in excellent form for the return game in Pilsen and for the Playoffs.
