- Zurich already through after Frölunda defeat Helsinki in the early game
- Six goals, three each through the first period
- Mladá Boleslav stay winless despite valiant effort
ZSC Lions Zurich faced fierce competition heading into the game against BK Mladá Boleslav as they sought to qualify from Group B. However, Zurich’s route to the Round of 16 was secured when Frölunda Gothenburg defeated IFK Helsinki.
The opening period saw plenty of action. Mladá Boleslav tried to quieten down the home crowd early, as Adam Raška jumped on a loose puck on the powerplay, firing it past the sprawling Zurich goalie Ludovic Waeber to open the account.
Less than a minute later though it was back to a level score. Chris Baltisberger fired in the tying goal, but it was all about the pass from Garrett Roe with a lovely spin pass out front to set up the goal.
The rest of the period saw the teams trade chances and trade more goals, Mladá Bolelsav regained the lead through Miloš Kelemen in his CHL debut, before it was quickly cancelled out by Denis Malgin of Zurich.
Kelemen would add his second of the night, and this time it took longer than a minute for Zurich to strike back, but eventually they would send the game into the first break tied at three thanks to a goal from Sven Andrighetto.
Zurich came out for the second period now knowing that regardless of the outcome they were already through to the next round.
Early on, Kelemen nearly notched his hat trick in his first CHL contest, but as Zurich stormed down the ice with speed straight after, Marc Aeschlimann would give the hosts their first lead of the night, with the puck finding its way out front to him in front of a wide open net after a mistimed poke check by Mladá Boleslav goalie Marek Schwarz. A fifth nearly followed quickly after but Denis Malgin was denied his second goal by the post, and that would be all the scoring in the middle period as Zurich carried a one goal lead into the third period.
Midway through the third, Andrighetto buried his second of the night to open a two goal lead, and another goal came quickly through John Quenneville to make it a 6-3 lead for Zurich as they began to cruise towards a win to close out the group stage ahead of the playoffs.
With time winding down, the scoring wasn't done. Justin Azevedo was next to jump on the scoresheet, fitting for the man wearing the top scorer jersey, as he finished off a lovely passing play by Zurich as the hosts grabbed their seventh, which secured them a big 7-3 victory to close out the group stage.
